TRUE GIVING IS FROM THE HEART

OUR FOUNDATION FOR “THANKS-GIVING LIVING”

I may be stating the painfully obvious here, but it’s always good to remind ourselves of the nature of true giving.   The truest (most joy-inspiring) giving seems to be that which comes from a state of “thanks”giving.  When our hearts are overflowing with this deep gladness for our blessings, we seem to give most freely, naturally and lavishly.  That’s why I like to remind myself as well as others that the two “gateways” to joy are always the same–giving and thanksgiving.  It’s from our “state” of gratefulness that we create our most solid foundation for “thanksgiving living”.  It’s upon that most “sure” foundation that we can overflow with the most natural–and even “supernatural”–giving!  (What do I mean by “supernatural” giving?  Well, you might just need to stay with me on that one!  That’s a bit more advanced than the foundations we’re laying now.  But I’d be honored if you’d “stay with me”…and let me share with you–before long!)

But having reminded ourselves of this foundation, let’s think in an even broader sense.  It really is about our attitude, isn’t it?  All a matter of our heart.  I mean, we can give physically (an actual act of sharing something) without doing so meaningfully, right?  That is, without “putting our heart into it”.  But, even if our outward act isn’t perfect (or a “big or lavish as we’d like), if our “heart” really is coming from a place of gratitude…and yes, love…it will make all the difference. (Love is the foundation of all true “ultimate” spiritual reality and goodness, I believe.  That’s an even bigger” topic I’ll be going into in my other blog on my most “uplifting” site, www.eagleheartbeat.com. Starting in July. It’ll be called “The Upward Way”, and will go into much more of these grandest of discussions. :-] )

It’s this “heart” factor that makes it most likely that not only the recipient–and maybe even an observer–will be most blessed, it absolutely guarantees that the giver will be!  How special is that!  In other words, we can’t really guarantee that the recipient will receive it in as meaningful a way as we’d hoped, but if we really do pour our “heart” into it, we can guarantee that we’ll be deeply blessed!

A WAY TO APPLY THIS:

I love the idea that Deepak Chopra shared in his book, “The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success” about gratitude.  He mentioned that he made it a point that he never wanted to meet with anyone without giving something to them in some way–even if it was “only” a silent prayer of blessing and best wishes on them.  I love that!   I’ve adopted a similar intention…and “on a good day”…I’m there!  (It really does help…when I’m not too caught up in personal challenges on some days… [You have days like that too, yes? ::smile:: ] …to find a “space” in me to offer this to others. ) It’s amazing how focusing on offering a blessing to others helps us skip past a tendency to complain, or even be too self-absorbed.  It can even help to keep us in the “gratitude” zone which, in turn, makes it all the easier to stay in the “giving” zone! And it all comes from this “intention” of blessing others.  And no one has to know.  But many will sense something. And so many will be blessed, whether they sense it or not!

I do hope these words are a blessing to you!

Thank you bearing with me as I “warm up” my sharing efforts about some of these favorite topics.  By now I’m very used to thinking about them, but still have many “rough edges” in my sharing of them, I’m sure!

May you be SO blessed…with the “greatest fullness” of heart and mind that comes from a heart of gratefulness!  (Hint: This is very close to the title for my book that I’m hoping and planning to publish this fall.  Thank you for “staying tuned”!)  May you be blessed back…even more richly than you’d ever dreamed…each time you give…and “thanks-give”!

RECEIVING IS GIVING

No. 2                           June 17, 2010

So many people who are natural “givers” tend to be so busy giving that they forget to stop and let others get in on the blessing of giving too.  Givers know, instinctively that “it’s more blessed to give than receive”.  And they love feeling that they are blessed in the very act of their giving.  It’s rather addicting, feeling the joy of knowing you’ve made a difference for someone, and getting the sense that you are getting blessed back…even in the very moment of giving.  No wonder givers tend to keep on giving!

But there are compulsive tendencies that can be less than healthy, even in the wonderful act of giving freely.  Sometimes givers fall into the trap of relying on their giving to feel that they are worthy of their place in the world.  It’s what makes feel deserving of being here.  Because they give.  And that can wear you out after a while.  The truest, free-est giving is always from the heart that overflows naturally from its deepest place of “being”.  Not becasue it “needs” to give.

But having said that, even for people who really are giving freely…and from a place of fullness and joy…it would help to take a break once in a while and let others get in on the blessing.  Remember, letting others give freely and joy-fully…is one of the greatest gifts you can give them!!   That’s right.  Letting them give…and you just doing the receiving…is one of the greatest gifts you can give them.  Especially if they’re just learning how to give from the heart.  It’s so important to let them get used to the amazing levels of joy that can only be known most fully by heart-and-soul givers.  And you can give them that…just be letting them give!  So relax and let it happen.  It’ll do you “givers” out there much good…to just relax for a change…and “soak it up”…and know that you’re doing them so much good!

[ahem] And for you “takers” out there?  This was not meant as an encouragement for you to just keep sitting around receiving.  The greatest joy is still in the giving.  Always will be. That’s why the givers keep doing it.  There’s SO much joy in splashing the giving around.  You may not pick up on that the first time.
But the more you let it “open you up”, the more you’ll feel the joy.  The more it comes from “deep down”, the more it’ll overflow…and the more you’ll want to keep giving!  Isn’t that right, Givers?  :-)

May you be SO blessed…
The more you’re free to give…
The more you’re free to receive…
Always for the pure joy of it!

GIVING IS RECEIVING

No. 1      GIVING IS RECEIVING     June 15, 2010

People say “what goes around comes around”, and it’s a very important concept to believe in and to understand.  But have you ever stopped to think how that we actually do “receive” the moment we give?  When we give to another, we really are giving to ourselves. Especially when we give meaningfully–from our heart.

There’s an old Jewish proverb that says “the generous man does good to his own soul”.  Isn’t that so true?  If we could see this, and really feel the joy in the giving, wouldn’t this change the way we give? The way we share?  The way we make a difference in our world?  And if more people saw it this way, wouldn’t it literally change the world?  Maybe we wouldn’t “hold back” so much.  Maybe…if we could see how “we are one”, and what that means in terms of how we are all inter-connected.  That’s why we can’t give to others without giving to ourselves, anymore than we can take from others without taking from ourselves.

Giving to be receiving?  Yes, call it selfish, if you’d like, but I feel it’s more about just being open to “receive” as we give…and feeling the joy of it, how we really are giving to our own energy essence when we do this.  I have a feeling if that…as we grasp this…and practice it, we’ll be much more “free” to give!

May you be SO blessed…
The more you’re free to give…
The more you’re aware that you receive…
Even as you give!
